Our Curriculum

Across the academic year, Year 6 pupils engage in a broad and enriching curriculum designed to prepare them for both SATs and the transition to secondary school.

In the Autumn term, learning begins with a focus on settling into roles and responsibilities, alongside a history-based enquiry into World War II, complemented by work on knowledge of structure in calculations for Maths, classification of living things, and later, rivers, electricity and persuasive writing.

The Spring term builds on this foundation with studies in evolution, early Islamic civilisation and the polar regions, alongside increasingly advanced maths topics such as ratio, algebra and decimals. Pupils also explore the human circulatory system in depth, supported by practical experiences and preparation for assessments, including mock SATs.

In the Summer term, the focus shifts towards revision and consolidation of Key Stage 2 learning in readiness for SATs, alongside engaging topics such as light, migration, and creative design projects. As the year draws to a close, pupils reflect on their primary school journey while taking part in transition activities, enterprise projects, performances and key events such as Sports Day.

Throughout the year, there is a strong emphasis on developing independence, resilience and wellbeing, ensuring all pupils are confident and well-prepared for the next stage of their education.
