How is PE taught at Rauceby?
At Rauceby we deliver an engaging and broad PE curriculum linked to the National Curriculum objectives. We provide opportunities for all our children to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness, whilst also inspiring all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. Through sport and other activities, we aim to help embed our school values.
The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all children:
Throughout KS1 our children will develop fundamental movement skills, become increasingly competent and confident and access a broad range of opportunities to extend their agility, balance and coordination, individually and with others. We aim for them to engage in competitive (both against self and against others) and co-operative physical activities, in a range of increasingly challenging situations.
Our children are taught to:
Throughout KS2 children continue to apply and develop a broader range of skills, learning how to use them in different ways and to link them to make actions and sequences of movement. We aim for them to enjoy communicating, collaborating and competing with each other as well as develop an understanding of how to improve in different physical activities and sports and learn how to evaluate and recognise their own success.
Our children are taught to:
Swimming and water safety is taught in KS2. Children in these year groups will attend a half an hour swimming session in a block of 6 - 7 weeks at Sleaford Leisure Centre. Children in Y6 who cannot swim 25m confidently will also attend additional sessions (if available) until they are water confident and can achieve this distance competently.
Our children are taught to :
There is clear progression in attaining and applying key skills in a wide range of sports and activities. To enhance the depth and mastery of the fundamental skills in PE, we use the 'Get Set 4 PE' scheme. This ensures children have the necessary skills to actively partake and succeed across the PE curriculum.
We also work with Carre's Outreach. Using the government's Sports Premium grant, we are able to buy into specialist coaches, staff training and resources that Carre's Outreach provides. This ensures staff receive high-quality PE training which enables them to deliver an excellent PE curriculum.
